Tonight we are stopped at a hotel near the LARGEST TRUCK STOP in the WORLD! What an exciting night in Iowa. The week spent before tonight is where Eric and I have spent the most fun part of our trip – Aberdeen, South Dakota!
There was no amusement park, shopping mall, or mountain scene that drew us to Aberdeen., no tall buildings or natural wonders. But there was something – that I consider to be way more awesome – family. It may sound cheesy, but family and friends – those deep personal connections – are all that you have in life. Material goods can be destroyed and decayed, but those relationships and bonds that you form with others stay with you, shape your happiness, and give you a reason to live.
Every time something funny or unusual happens, my grandma says, “That’s a memory!” as though she is filing it away in her mind. It’s true though. I’ll always remember Wii bowling with my grandma and grandpa, going to the casino with my dad, and staying up until 4am with my aunt. These are irreplaceable memories.
This is why it was so important for Eric and I to spend time in the city of 25,000 – 3rd largest in South Dakota – that they call Aberdeen.
Tomorrow, we leave the corn fields and head to the Windy City (Chicago)!
