“Discovering the world, one tennis court at a time”
In 2008, I was frustrated with my years of weight gain, my lack of fulfilling my travel dreams, and the day-in and day-out routine of living inside a cubicle at a dead end job. It was time for a radical life change. I started with leaving my job and traveling the country.
Traveling and losing weight was a topic of discussion. My friends wondered how I would lose weight while sitting in the car for three months traveling. I insisted the problem with our society’s weight gain -including me- didn’t lie with our food selections as much as the quantity we consume. It was at this time I made a bet with them: I could lose weight over the three months by ONLY eating fast food.
Three months, 48 states, three countries, and 20K miles later, I was nearly 40lbs lighter and created enough memories for a lifetime. My only exercise had been hiking and walking while visiting the many National Parks around America, but I limited my portions while eating.
I had a few regrets from the trip:
I didn’t keep a good blog
I didn’t document the trip with video
I didn’t have anyone with me to share the experiences
I didn’t use the media publicity for a good cause.
So, I’m heading out again!
This time, I will be sharing the experiences with my 20yr old sister. Along the way, I hope to raise money for charity and introduce her to the great game of tennis.
I have become a huge fan of tennis over the last 15 years, but my sister has never been much of a sports fan at all. As a means of exercise and to introduce her to the sport I’ve grown to love, we will stop in each state for a tennis lesson.
By the end of the 20K mile trip, I’m hoping the foundation for tennis appreciation will have been created. It truly is a game people can play their entire lives.
She and I will be keeping online blogs through this website. It will be an interactive website and we look forward to chatting with people along the way.
There will be online webisodes (web videos) at least once a week as well. I’m also in the process of getting a charitable event together, which we will promote during our trip.
If you’re a person who enjoys travel, tennis, sibling bonding, or weight loss, I know you’ll enjoy joining us on our journey.
Thank you,
Eric and Ellen Kramp
